Lidnews24 is a new, independent news service built for people who want useful information without using too much data. We are starting with a small set of newsroom notes and explainers, and we will add verified reports as they are ready.
Our aim is simple: help readers understand what is happening, why it matters, and what is known—without pop-ups, autoplay video, or tracking scripts.
What we cover
We focus on Sri Lanka, the wider South Asian region, and international developments that affect people here. Our coverage includes national affairs, the economy, science and health, and sport. We will clearly label analysis and opinion.
Lidnews24 publishes in English. As the newsroom grows, we will consider editions in Sinhala, Tamil, and Nepali.
Built for basic phones
Every page is text-first. We do not use JavaScript, iframes, autoplay media, or large image files. The site works over both HTTP and HTTPS, and navigation is plain HTML. If you can open a web page, you can read Lidnews24.
That choice is deliberate. A news service should not ask readers to download an app, disable an ad blocker, or wait for a video to finish before they can read a sentence. It should load quickly, work on a small screen, and keep the focus on the story.
How we work
We verify before we publish. We identify our sources, check documents, and separate confirmed facts from interpretation. When we get something wrong, we correct it and explain the change. Our editorial standards are public.
We are a small newsroom, so we will not pretend to cover everything. We will choose stories carefully, explain them clearly, and link back to the source material when we can.
This is a newsroom note, not a reported news story. It explains what Lidnews24 is and how we intend to work.
