Ronaldo facing punishment for hidden advertising at Euro 2024
Captain of the Portuguese national team Cristiano Ronaldo was threatened with punishment for hidden advertising at Euro-2024. This is reported by Goal.
According to the former head of global sponsorship for Visa and Coca-Cola Ricardo Fort, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) should fine Ronaldo for advertising a fitness bracelet company Whoop, whose ambassadors he is.
“The post [which appeared after the 1/8 finals meeting] is about UEFA matches, using the names of the two national teams, the score and a player on the pitch. They hint at a link to the event and that is illegal,” Fort said.
The fitness device tracked Ronaldo’s heart rate during Portugal’s match against Slovenia in the 1/8 finals of Euro 2024 (0-0, 3-0 on penalties). The post revealed that the forward’s heart rate dropped from 170 to 100 beats per minute before his strike in the penalty shootout and rose to 180 when Bernardo Silva scored the decisive goal.
